Research project 4th cleaning step plus: Wastewater without microplastics and micropollutants
At the wastewater treatment plant Landau-Mörlheim of the Entsorgungs- und Wirtschaftsbetrieb Landau i.d.Pfalz (EWL), Germany, the Wasser 3.0 PE-X® process is being used for the first time in a long-term trial for application in municipal wastewater.
As part of this long-term study, research will be conducted over the next 12 months to determine how the Wasser 3.0 PE-X® process can be used effectively in municipal wastewater treatment and how a 4th treatment step can thus be made economically, ecologically and socially viable. This 4th purification step also removes microplastics specifically for the first time. Since no limit values exist for microplastics to date, this pilot project represents a novelty for wastewater treatment.
This project, funded by the Ministry for Environment, Energy, Food and Forestry Rhineland-Palatinate (MUEEF), is a cooperation between EWL as the operator of the Landau-Mörlheim wastewater treatment plant, abcr GmbH as the material manufacturer and Wasser 3.0 gGmbH. Wasser 3.0 has developed the Wasser 3.0 PE-X® process through many years of research and is now responsible, among other functions, for the scientific monitoring of this long-term study.
