Microplastics: between panic and reality
18. July 2025Insights, exchange, solutions: That was our OPEN HOUSE for water without microplastics and micropollutants in Landau
On June 26 and 27, 2025, we once again opened our doors at our research and pilot plant site at the wastewater treatment plant in Landau-Mörlheim. At the OPEN HOUSE, visitors were able to experience first-hand how our innovative processes for water treatment and microplastic removal work.
Whether in practical demonstrations, exciting discussions or through exchanges with our partners - the two days were characterized by curiosity, dialogue and real energy for the future. Our long-standing partners abcr GmbH, van Remmen UV Technology, OLOID Engineering GmbH and Carl Roth GmbH + Co. KG, who enriched our program with valuable impulses and technologies, were also present.
Wasser 3.0: Pioneering work for clean water
Wasser 3.0 stands for more than just research - we are developing concrete solutions for one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. This includes our Wasser 3.0 PE-X® technology. This has been revolutionizing the removal of microplastics and other micropollutants from water for several years now.
The OPEN HOUSE made this complex science tangible: Visitors were able to experience live how our technology works - from standardized sampling and detection of microplastics to microplastic removal, and microplastic recycling. Transparency and the transfer of knowledge are crucial, as it is only through understanding that trust in new technologies and the willingness to proactively implement them in processes can be created.

A real impact platform for the future of water
The OPEN HOUSE was much more than just an information event - it was an impact platform that brought together various players in the water industry.
Over the two days, we welcomed around 60 visitors from seven different countries - a sign of the growing interest in innovative solutions in water treatment. Our guests came with very different professional backgrounds and levels of knowledge. They included decision-makers from industry and municipalities, researchers, educational stakeholders, and environmentalists. This networking is the key to real change.
It was the people, the topics - and the space for real exchange. We brought together interested laypeople and proven experts to talk about one of the biggest environmental problems of our time: the pollution of our waters by microplastics and micropollutants.
Why the format works:
Direct knowledge transfer: complex research results are translated into understandable applications. Visitors saw not just diagrams, but how our systems actually work.
Multiplier effect: Every visitor becomes an ambassador for clean water. The 60 participants from Germany and six other countries pass on the knowledge to their networks.
Concrete solutions instead of theoretical discussions: At our stations, visitors were able to experience how microplastics are removed from water - with measurable results and practical applications.

Gamechanger: Why this format is changing the future of water
- From the lab to the real world: traditional science communication is often limited to publications and conferences. Our OPEN HOUSE once again showed a new way: research can be experienced in a real environment. At the wastewater treatment plant in Landau-Mörlheim, visitors were able to see how our technology works in practice.
- Democratization of knowledge: Water is a common good - which is why knowledge about it should be accessible to everyone. Our format makes highly complex research understandable for different target groups without simplifying it.
- Catalyst for innovation: When different stakeholders come together, new ideas emerge. The OPEN HOUSE has become a think tank for future collaborations and projects.
- Systemic approach: We don't just show individual technologies, but entire solution chains - from the detection and removal to the monitoring of microplastics.
The difference: practice instead of theory
The OPEN HOUSE creates a link between science and practice. Visitors not only saw presentations, but also experienced them:
- Measurable results: Real water samples before and after treatment with our Wasser 3.0 PE-X® technology demonstrated concrete purification performance.
- Scalable solutions: From laboratory applications to large-scale industrial plants - all dimensions of our technology became tangible.
- Economic feasibility: Cost analyses and efficiency calculations made it clear that clean water also makes economic sense.
Interactive stations – for water without microplastics
At a total of nine stations, participants were given detailed insights into the various areas of water treatment and microplastics research:
- Sampling for microplastic analysis – visitors learned how to take scientifically correct water samples and why sample volume is crucial.
- Microplastic Detection - Live demonstration of our innovative analytical methods that can identify microplastic particles down to 1 micrometer in size.
- Microplastics Mapping and Global Map of Microplastics - Interactive data visualization that illustrates the global extent of pollution and identifies hotspots.
- Fourth treatment stage plus - Focus on the removal of micropollutants such as PFAS and PVA using our Wasser 3.0 PE-X® technology and AOP from van Remmen UV Technology
- Industrial wastewater treatment with Wasser 3.0 PE-X® - Practical application and measurable impact of our technology in various industries.
- OLOID Engineering GmbH - Mechanical solutions for water treatment as a supplement to our chemical processes.
- abcr GmbH - Environmental chemistry and analytics for sustainable processes.
- Carl Roth GmbH + Co KG - Laboratory supplies and materials for research and development.
- Rebel of the water - Non-fiction book with many solutions on how we can save our most precious resource.
The stations have mapped our entire area of activity - now everyone knows what we do at Wasser 3.0. The microplastics problem has long been omnipresent and we cannot wait for political guidelines. Only with innovative solutions will we be able to tackle the problem effectively - and that is exactly what we want to encourage everyone to do.
Open House for EU projects
The OPEN HOUSE was also the official event for the EU projects REMEDIES and UPSTREAM. In this context, our partners presented their solutions for sustainable water systems - practically and directly in a real environment. This European dimension underlines the relevance of our work: water pollution is a global problem that requires international solutions.

An unusual format provides food for thought
Our OPEN HOUSE brought research and practical innovations related to clean water to life for the general public and promoted exchange. Visitors were able to experience first-hand how innovative science, technology and social commitment work together to tackle the urgent challenge of microplastic pollution. The special feature: All of this took place in an atmosphere of trust, which enabled discussions at eye level and valuable insights into the current challenges facing the industry.
The consistently positive feedback confirms that we are on the right track - together with our partners, we are focusing on transparency, open communication and respectful dialog to bring about sustainable change in water treatment.
It was informal, it was connecting, it was professionally great and it is simply brilliant to see how you have developed.
Thanks to our partners
Special thanks go to our partners, who not only made the OPEN HOUSE possible, but also significantly enriched it with their expertise and commitment. Their contributions - from innovative technologies to professional exchange - turned the event into a real community experience with depth.
