Next river monitoring for microplastics
3. June 2025
Removal of microplastics, PVA and PFAS from wastewater
12. June 2025Last spots available: The next OPEN HOUSE on water without microplastics and micropollutants is coming up quick – meet the exhibitors
A lot has been going on within the non-profit Greentech company, which focuses on water without microplastics and pollutants. And the next OPEN HOUSE 2025 is just around the corner, taking place on 26 and 27 June 2025 at the EW Landau wastewater treatment plant.
The OPEN HOUSE aims to share research-driven, real-world innovations for clean water with a wide audience, fostering open dialogue and knowledge exchange.
Participants will experience firsthand how science, technology, and citizen engagement can combine to address one of today’s most pressing environmental challenges: microplastic pollution.
#bettertogether: discussion & networking
During the OPEN HOUSE, the doors to the research and development site at the Landau-Mörlheim wastewater treatment plant will be opened. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to view and experience Wasser 3.0’s fields of activity on site and it will also be the official Open Day event for the Horizon Europe projects REMEDIES and UPSTREAM, where partners will highlight their solutions for sustainable water systems in a real-world setting.
The OPEN HOUSE 2025 brings together stakeholders from research, industry, policy, and society. You can expect live demonstrations and lots of information.
Our effective and transparent linchpin for action for water without microplastics
Wasser 3.0 has developed a special sampling unit (Particle Sampling Unit, PSU) for comparable sampling of wastewater and other water bodies.
In addition, our simple and fast analysis method Wasser 3.0 detect enables standardized continuous monitoring of microplastic pollution in (waste) water treatment processes and water bodies.

The Global Map of Microplastics is a collaborative interaction from our educational area WASoMI and our current research in microplastics detection. For the first time, users will be able to see the type and intensity of microplastic pollution in bodies of water on an interactive map and contribute to data collection themselves.

In citizen science projects, anyone interested can help collect data on microplastics in local waters. Equipped with an analytic kit and the Wasser 3.0 app, water samples can be taken in a standardized and data-based manner. You can read the current results of the comprehensive sampling of the Alb and Queich rivers in our blog.
Our effective and transparent linchpin for action for water without microplastics
Wasser 3.0 PE-X® process provides an adaptive complete solution for a cost-efficient sustainability upgrade for industrial and municipal water treatment. The process focuses on the removal of microplastics and is based on green chemistry, low-tech systems, and circular economy processes. With low acquisition and operating costs, it not only improves the resulting water quality, but also reduces resource utilization, waste generation and less energy demand compared to the competitors.

In a previously published study, we have already tested the effectiveness of AOP and Wasser 3.0 PE-X® for removing microplastics in addition to micropollutants. We are currently testing the simultaneous removal of PVA, PFAS and microplastics together with Van Remmen UV Technology within the EU UPSTREAM project.

In our industrial applications, Wasser 3.0 PE-X® is reducing the microplastic footprint by 95%, with a 50% lower energy demand than previous treatment processes. It delivers potential for a 75% cost saving in continuous operation, with a return on invest of less than 2 years. In addition, 100% of the removed waste can be reused, which increases the contribution to resource conservation and at the same time creates a new secondary source of income across the value chain.

Connecting people and action for water without microplastics and other micropollutants!
Added value is created when different views are combined in joint actions – and this year’s OPEN HOUSE is also the official Open Day event for the EU Horizon REMEDIES and UPSTREAM projects.

Along seven rivers and in five countries, scientists from 22 partners in the UPSTREAM project (Horizon-Miss-2022-Ocean-01-04) are researching and developing a total of 14 solutions for monitoring, preventing, removing and valorising waste (L), plastics (P) and microplastics (MP).
Van Remmen UV Technology is one of the leading suppliers of sustainable advanced oxidation systems in Europe, and we work together in the Horizon Europe UPSTREAM project.
The focus lies on solutions to remove PVA, PFAS, and microplastics with a 4th cleaning stage plus.
The treatment process is based on Van Remmen´s AOP process, combined with our Wasser 3.0 PE-X® processes.
The EU funded project REMEDIES is implemented by 21 pan-European and one African organization. It focuses on innovation actions along three main pillars: the monitoring of plastic waste, its collection and valorization and the prevention of the proliferation of non-degradable plastics.
We are contributing to achieving REMEDIES goals through the long-term monitoring with our PSU and standardized detection method and removal of microplastics using Wasser 3.0 PE-X® at the wastewater treatment plant on Mykonos, Greece.

And this is not everything:
Numerous partners-in-mission will also be joining alongside us at this year’s OPEN HOUSE to present their technologies and discuss solutions, including:
For everyone
All stakeholders and interested parties from industry & municipalities, politics & science, educational institutions and the public are invited. The event will be held in German and English. Participation is free of charge. A voluntary donation is welcome.
As the OPEN HOUSE requires a security concept, we can only welcome a limited number of guests. Registrations are only possible for a few days. Please use the link to register and save your space for the unique OPEN HOUSE event in Landau.
