Oleg Zernikel came to stay

Oleg is currently one of the best German pole vaulters. His greatest national success was winning the German championship in 2021 and his best international placings were 9th place at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo and 5th place with a personal best at the 2022 World Championships in the USA. At Wasser 3.0, he is currently employed as a scientific assistant and will now also act as an ambassador for water without microplastics. But who is Oleg?

Washing Maschines as a Source of Microplastics?!

Washing synthetic textiles releases large amounts of microplastics into the environment every day worldwide. This is why France is introducing mandatory microplastic filters for new washing machines beginning in 2025. But just how effective are such filters? And is this the most effective approach moving forwards? This blog post covers how microplastics are formed during washing, which factors influence their formation, the reduction and prevention strategies which currently exist, and potential solutions.

New data on microplastic removal from wastewater

Wastewater treatment plants are important point sources of microplastics and micropollutants into the environment. Many wastewater treatment plants will be required to upgrade their facilities with an advanced treatment step to remove micropollutants, but these processes do not target microplastic removal. We therefore investigated the ability of two advanced treatment methods and our novel Wasser 3.0 PE-X® process to remove microplastics at the wastewater treatment plant in Landau, Germany. Microplastics and Tire Wear

Tire wear particles are communicated as one of the main sources of direct microplastic (Microplastics Type B) entry into the environment. But is this the truth? Fact is: Currently, no standardized analytical method for tire wear particles exists; only rough estimations can be made. The real extent is unknown. This blog discusses the issue of tire wear particles as a major microplastic source and the status quo regarding detection and regulations.
